 A well-rounded approach

Violin Skills & Life Skills

When you master a new song, what have you really learned? You've learned how to master any new & complex challenge.

When you play a wrong note, but then recover and finish a performance with panache, what have you really learned?  You've learned how to respond better when you make any kind of mistake.

Learning Grit & Resilience

In our ever-changing world, the most important life-skills are probably grit & resilience. High-quality music training offers more than mere entertainment value. In your violin lessons with me, you or your child will learn:

  • How to perform well under pressure

  • How to learn from mistakes

  • A constructive frame of mind for tackling big challenges

  • How to cultivate internal discipline

A Variety of Musical Styles

I also believe that a well-rounded musician needs training in a variety of musical styles. Lessons with me can include:

  • Classical

  • Fiddle

  • Jazz

  • Pop

  • Improvisation

  • Composition

  • Music theory

Teaching the whole student

I love playing violin for its own sake, but I also know that my musical training has been critical for my own personal growth. I see the same with all of my students; they bring their whole history and personality to playing violin. When they master violin, they master themselves -- and that is a beautiful lesson.
